January 12, 2010, Your in Port-Au-Prince. Your Hotel starts to shake violently. You Shake your head, no its impossible an earthquake hasn't happened in 200 years in Haiti. It stops as soon as it started. You grab necessary items and get out of your hotel. Things are totally destroyed outside you take out your laptop and go to usgs.gov a 7.0 earthquake has happened where you are. 12 minutes later it starts to shake again, a 6.0 aftershock.
February 27, 2010, Your in Santiago, Chile, sleeping in your hotel room. It starts to shake violently you wake up. It's an earthquake. Just as you get out of your bed and on the the floor, it stops. The power is out, you grab your cell phone, its around three a.m. You get dressed, get your bags and get out of the building. You open your laptop, a 8.8 magnitude earthquake just happened.

Earthquakes are happening everywhere. It's almost amazing. It's El Nino this year, which means unusual weather. Earthquakes are not weather though. Earthquakes are when tectonic plates go under, over, or scrape against other plates. The Haiti Earthquake was when the North American Plate scraped against the Caribbean Plate. Also known as a strike slip fault or a transform boundary. The Chile Earthquake was when the Nazca Plate went Under the south American Plate. Also Known as a Reversed fault or as a Convergent boundary. The Oklahoma quake? The Earth was releasing stress. It's crazy right? Maybe the world really is ending!
